About Us

Scuba World was established in 1979 as a small, modest dive shop in Toowong, Brisbane. Thirty years on Scuba World has grown into one of the leading dive stores in Australia. Employing over fifteen highly qualified and experienced staff, a custom built 11.3 metre (38ft) naiad rigid hull inflatable boat, an onsite heated training pool, state-of-the-art rental equipment and two stunning stores located on the beautiful Wharf at Mooloolaba, Queensland, Australia.

Ian McKinnon

Ian is the founder and Managing Director of Scuba World. He is a Pro 5000 Instructor Certifier and has been operating Scuba World since 1979.

Gail McKinnon
Owner/Customer Service Director

After all these years Gail still remains the backbone of Scuba World. She has supported Ian and Scuba World and has sacrificed over the years to help build Scuba World into one of the finest diving businesses in Australia.

Having spent 2007 and 2008 working in London for Ernst and Young, Scuba World is excited to have Mike back on the team. He brings a collaboration of attributes that will help Scuba World continue to grow on the business front.

Increasing Scuba World's customer base is Rob's number one focus! He spends his time creating and implementing new systems to increase the overall experience for Scuba World customers. His time is also spent creating cutting edge marketing campaigns that help to keep Scuba World interesting to the public's eye.

Since learning to dive in 1980 Rob has dived extensively throughout Australia and the South Pacific. Rob has worked for several major Cairns based dive operations in addition to owning and operating his own dive company in Brisbane for many years. Now, an accomplished Professional and SSI Instructor Certifier, Rob brings to Scuba World a real passion for diving and wealth of experience that he can't wait to share.

Jeremy Donne

As one of Scuba World's most senior instructors, Jeremy brings experience and excellence that others could only dream of. The way in which he addresses situations and teaches courses is second to none. He is a major contributing factor to the success of Scuba World.

Steve Ambrose
Advanced Instructor

Steve worked as a Navy clearance diver for the Royal Australia Navy. He spent three years working on the HMAS BRISBANE. Steve is a great asset to Scuba World's dive team. He is committed to providing customers with an informative and interesting diving experience.

Jason Morden

Jason provides customers with an experience that they won't forget! He shows great patience and is an excellent ambassador for Scuba World. He is one of diving's true gentleman and is an extremely passionate instructor.

Adrian Fields

Adrian's laid back attitude makes him extremely popular around Scuba World. Although he does take diving very seriously he love to make jokes, have fun and provide all customers with a memorable experience at Scuba World.

Nathan Lee
Instructor/Coxswain

Nathan has been an Instructor and Coxswain since 2004. He has also spent a lot of time traveling the world as a snowboarding instructor. He gained most of his diving and boating experience in the Whitsundays and along The Great Barrier Reef. Nathan has recently arrived back in Australia after operating a dive shop in Fiji.

Brett Colley

Brett is the 'party' of Scuba World. He provides excellent customer service, an exciting day's diving and a collection of great attributes that make him very popular with everyone.

Raelene Brown

Raelene has been working with Scuba World for over two years and has recently completed her Associate Instructor course. Although she is only ninteen years old she has completed over 200 dives and offers experience that far exceed her years.

Chris Scard

Chris is an extremely hard working and loyal Scuba World team member. He is always available to help out when needed. Chris or 'Scardy' as he is affectionately known can excel in any task that is set for him. The Scuba World team values his commitment and looks forward to his continuing development.

Tony Isaacson
Dive Control Specialist

Tony has been Scuba Diving since 1970 and he has completed 1000+ dives as a solo diver collecting specimens for commercial, public and school-based aquaria. Tony has been teaching marine studies in schools since 1977. He is the Inaugural president and founding member of the Marine Life Society of South Australia, 1976 www.mlssa.asn.au. He has recently established marine studies at Sunshine Coast Grammar School and trialed UQ CoralWatch www.coralwatch.org He is a proactive advocate for sharks and sustainability and we are very happy to have Tony on the Scuba World dive team.

Chris Heider

Chris has been working at Scuba World for the past 12 months and has recently been awarded his Dive Control Specialist rating. His attitude to completing tasks and interacting with customers is great. We are confident he will achieve great things for Scuba World and for his own personal development.

Alex Hayes
Master Diver

Alex is the youngest member of the Scuba World dive team. He learnt to dive at Scuba World in August 2008 and is already well on his way to completing 200 dives by the end of 2010. He loves his diving and is keen to progress to instructor level.
